Document signed by Cornelius Vanderbilt and all of the other 12 original directors of the Rapid Transit Subway Construction Company, formed at the turn of the 20th century to build New York City's subway system. Document is signed during their first meeting, held on 20 February 1900, and waives advanced formal notice of the meeting, as they were already gathered together. Signed by all 13 directors: Cornelius Vanderbilt, William H. Baldwin Jr. (President of the Long Island Rail Road), Charles T. Barney, August Belmont Jr. (of Belmont Stakes fame), George Coppell, E. Mora Davison, Andrew Freedman (owner of the New York Giants), James Jourdan, Gardiner M. Lane, Walter G. Oakman, John Peirce, William A. Read and George W. Young. The very next day, on 21 February 1900, the RTS Construction Company would sign the contract to begin construction on the subway system with the city's transit commissioners. Single page document measures 8'' x 13''. Shallow folds and punch holes at top. Hinged with archival tape to double-mat board measuring 11'' x 16''. Very good to near fine condition.
