Autograph letter signed by Hubert-Joseph Henry, the French Lt. Col. whose hand in the Dreyfus Affair led to the false conviction and imprisonment of Alfred Dreyfus. The forged document, ''faux Henry'', was ultimately exposed by Henry's confession, leading to his arrest and imprisonment. Dated only ''Thursday night'', French letter translates in full, ''Thursday night / My dear friend, I had told Reinhart that I would be at his house on Friday at 9:30 in the morning and I had kindly asked him to let you know. He is writing to me that he is forced to leave the house at 9:00 in the morning and is asking me to come at 11:00 instead would you be so kind to also find me at his place at this time. / Kindly yours / Henry''. Single page on bifolium measures 4'' x 6.25''. Single fold and partially affixed to board, overall very good.
