Emile Zola signed cabinet card, boldly signed and dated 24 February 1898, one month after Zola published one of the most famous and powerful newspaper articles of all time, ''J'Accuse!''. As a front-page letter to French President Felix Faure in the newspaper ''L'Aurore'', Zola powerfully makes the case for Alfred Dreyfus' innocence of treason, claiming the conviction was borne of forged evidence and anti-semitism. Though convicted of libel himself and forced to flee to England, Zola's article had a profound effect worldwide and rallied support for Dreyfus, who was pardoned a year later in 1899. Cabinet card measures 4.25'' x 6.5'', on Paul Nadar's photographer's mount. Near fine condition.
