King George IV signed military appointment as Prince Regent, dated January 1816. His large signature, ''George PR'' appears in the upper left, just below a line that reads ''In the Name and on the Behalf of His Majesty''. George ruled the United Kingdom on behalf of his father, King George III, incapacitated by mental illness, until ascending the throne in 1820 as George IV. Here he appoints John Wolrige ''...to be Captain of such Company in such Division of our Corps of Royal Marines...'' An embossed seal on the first page reads: ''One Pound / Ten Shillings''. The single page document is countersigned by Admiral Joseph Yorke and measures 15.5'' x 11.75''. Light toning and soiling with glue residue to verso. Fading to signatures. In very good condition.
