King George III document signed boldly near the top edge in the 27th year of his reign. Dated 22 March 1787, the handwritten patent is issued to civil engineer John Smeaton of Grays Inn in the county of Middlesex. The legal document protects his design for machinery to extract oil from seeds. Countersigned by Sydney and stamped 2 shillings and 6 pence. 4pp. on card style stationery measures 8'' x 12.5''. Light toning, foxing, and creasing. Very good.
