John Hancock document signed, dated 16 December 1780, during his first months as Governor of Massachusetts. The partially printed single page document confirms the origin and ownership of the schooner, Industry, and affirms that ''no subject of the king of Great-Britain, directly or indirectly has any share, part, or interest therein''. The Governor boldly signs his distinctive, ''John Hancock'' in the left margin, below the Massachusetts state seal. William Davis, ship's master, signs the bottom of the 8'' x 13'' document. Toning and creasing; very good condition. Beautifully framed in cream and gilt.
