Andrew Carnegie signed copy of his travelogue ''An American Four-in-Hand in Britain'', Carnegie's entertaining account of his visit to Great Britain. New York: Charles Scribner & Sons, 1899. Carnegie signs the half-title page on the first day of the 20th century: ''Irving Bacheller, / With every good wish / Andrew Carnegie / New York Jany 1st 1900''. Irving Bacheller was a journalist and founder of the first newspaper syndicate, likely one to appreciate the steel magnate's travel book, which has been described as a pithy ''expression of a vigorous personality''. Bound in publisher's red boards with gilt lettering. Measures 5.25'' x 7.5''. Rubbing to boards, separation starting to front hinge and Bacheller's bookplate to front pastedown. Overall in good plus condition.
