John Quincy Adams ship's papers signed as President, countersigned by Henry Clay as Secretary of State. Attractive document features maritime vignettes at top, with scalloped top edge designed to mimic the ocean's waves. Measures 11'' x 14.75''. Document is undated (thought sometime between 1825-1829) and not filled out; Presidents would sign ship's papers in advance and some were not used, with these tending to be in excellent condition. This example is no exception, with vellum document remaining bright with bold signatures and intact paper seal. Near fine condition.
