Winston Churchill signed first edition, without inscription, of ''The Second World War'', his six volume tome published shortly after the war's end. London: Cassell & Co., 1948-1954, first English editions. Churchill boldly signs the half-title page of volume I ''The Gathering Storm'': ''Inscribed by / Winston S. Churchill / 1950''. Signed copies by Churchill are scarce with uninscribed copies in their original binding even more so.

All six volumes are bound in original publisher's black cloth with gilt titling, with illustrated ''W.S.C.'' endpapers and numerous fold-out maps throughout. Volumes measure 5.75'' x 8.5''. Minor shelf wear with bumping to corners and light foxing. Separation starting to rear hinges of volumes III and VI, else very good to near fine condition.
