Extraordinarily large archive of documents, telegrams and letters from Frank Lloyd Wright and his office, most dated during the 1950s. Collection includes 13 telegrams sent personally from Wright, three unsigned letters by Wright, and a vast collection of documents from his office, most originating from Aaron Green, Wright's west coast representative.
Several interesting documents are contained in the archive, including a letter and article from the San Francisco Examiner critiquing Frank Lloyd Wright houses for their poor livability and the amount of maintenance and repairs needed on them. The article is copiously annotated, presumably by Green, disagreeing with many of the assertions made. Several positive letters by residents of Wright homes are also included to refute the article.
Also of interest is a four-page letter from Wright in 1957 concerning Monona Terrace, a Madison, Wisconsin convention center that Wright hoped to design. Wright seems to be replying to a bill being considered by the Wisconsin legislature regarding the project, and responds vociferously to an unnamed ''unconscientious objector''.
Hundreds more pages of documents are included, many concerning possible commissions and also correspondence between Green and members of the Taliesin community. These include Olgivanna Lloyd Wright (Wright's wife), Iovanna Lloyd Wright (Wright's daughter), Gene Masselink (Wright's secretary) and others. An exceptional collection providing a glimpse into the inner workings of Frank Lloyd Wright's business.
