John Hancock Revolutionary War military appointment signed on 1 January 1776 as President of the Continental Congress. Document appoints Captain Ozias Bissell to the 17th Regiment of Foot, also called the 17th Continental Regiment, commanded by Colonel Jedediah Huntington. Shortly after this document was signed, the 17th Regiment were ordered to hold Dorchester Heights, effectively ending British occupation of Boston. Boldly signed by Hancock with his unique signature and paraph. Document measures 11" x 9.75", mounted to mat measuring 16" x 14.5". Creasing and folds, including through Hancock's signature. Some wear and discoloration to mat. Overall in fair condition, boldly signed by Hancock. Accompanied by a 19th century U.K. military document.
