Historic printing mat from the ''The Washington Post'' front page, announcing Richard Nixon's resignation on 9 August 1974. The headline ''Nixon Resigns'' shouts at top, followed by sub-heads, ''Ford Assumes Presidency Today'', ''A Solemn Change'' and ''Era of Good Feeling / Congress Expects Harmony'' appear underneath. This issue of ''The Washington Post'' was the culmination of over two years of award winning coverage exposing the Watergate scandal. Mat is one of a small number produced for the paper, measuring 16.125'' x 24''. Very good to near fine condition with minor buckling at top. From the estate of an individual who worked at the Washington, DC Government Printing Office, Bureau of Engraving and Printing in the 1970s. Accompanied by the actual ''Washington Post'' newspaper that this mat was used for, the ''FINAL'' edition from 9 August 1974, in near fine condition.
