Trophy won by tennis legend Arthur Ashe at the Detroit Tennis Club Invitational. Arthur Ashe is considered one of tennis' finest players and achieved worldwide recognition as the first African American player to win the U.S. Open, Wimbledon and the Australian Open. Ashe was also admired for his humanitarian efforts; one of his passions was bringing tennis programs to youth in inner cities, Detroit being one of them. Solid brass trophy bowl is engraved: ''Detroit Tennis Club / Invitational / D'bls. 1st.'' With a flared rim and domed foot with International Giftwares maker's mark on the underside. Measures 4.5'' in total height, 9'' in diameter at the mouth, and weighs 1 pound, four ounces. Foot diameter measures 4.75''. Scattered light tarnishing and soiling to bowl exterior, with substantial tarnishing to interior, else near fine. With an LOA from Arthur Ashe's widow.
