Arthur Ashe's Wimbledon memento. Officially issued shallow bowl celebrates the centennial of Wimbledon, the world's oldest tennis championship. A medal is inlaid to the center of the glass piece, reading ''Wimbledon Centenary Year 1977'' and depicting a male and female tennis player, both dressed for a match and wielding rackets. Arcing over the medal, an etching to the glass reads, ''1877 Wimbledon 1977'' and Ashe's name and the year he won men's singles (1975) are etched below. Underneath, two old fashioned-looking players appear. Measures 3.5'' in diameter. Housed in the original green box with the silversmith's insignia imprinted to lid of box reading: ''By appointment to H.M. The Queen - Goldsmiths & - Crown Jewellers / Garrard & Co. Ltd...'' Near fine condition.
