William Shatner Conveys His Jealousy of DeForest Kelley's Solid Marriage -- ''...What a strange, wonderful life they had - I still marvel at it...''

Heartfelt and candid handwritten signed recollection by William Shatner on his ''Star Trek'' colleague, DeForest Kelley. Shatner is impressed with Kelley's ability to control his ego during the heady fame-filled years of ''Star Trek'': ''Deforest Kelley was a dear, gentle, lovely soul to me. He didn't have to try - that's who he was lovely and intelligent. He drove a car that was so old, it was a relic - He lived in the same house for years and years - no matter whether his fortunes waned or grew, he remained the same - same house, same car, even the same clothes - he was not a disciple of fads. And most importantly, he loved the same lady all his life. That was the most remarkable thing about Deforest - his marriage was so solid - he married his best friend. She went early when he died - they shared the same fortune. To me, he was enviable. She made him meals - sometimes he brown bagged it to the studio - He had this little dog - little dogs live longer than big dogs, in fact - they can live twice as long - my dog would live their appointed time, maybe a decade - His dog went on forever - and so it seemed, would Deforest and his wife - Not to be. They grew sick together he and his wife - They went to the actor's home together - and together they got Alzheimers. They declined together - now they were in separate rooms - but still together - They died very soon after each other - What a strange, wonderful life they had - I still marvel at it. / William Shatner''.
