Charming watercolor illustration by Harold Gray of his most famous creation, Little Orphan Annie. Upon the front free endpaper of the first edition of ''Little Orphan Annie in the Circus'', Gray paints Annie and her dog Sandy, with the dialogue bubble above Annie reading, ''Leapin' Lizards! Isn't that our pal, Charley Mailing Burke?'' To which Sandy replies, ''ARF!'' Harold Gray signs at bottom. Published in New York: Cupples & Leon, 1927. Some soiling and light dampstaining on rear board, hinges starting and previous owner's name written to front pastedown. Overall in very good condition.
