Poignant letter signed by Stan Laurel, dated 16 January 1965, approximately 5 weeks before his death. Writing to his friend Bill Starkell, Laurel writes of health issues, ''...Note Kay [Starkell's wife] too has a sore in her mouth -- suggest after each meal she was[h] her mouth with luke warm salt water...ought to see a Dr too, these things can develop into something serious.! / Am still taking the Xray treatments - about 7 to date - probably 7 more to go...as always [signed] Stan Laurel.'' In early January, Laurel began x-ray treatments for an infection on the roof of his mouth, and died of a heart attack in February. Single page letter measures 5.5'' x 8.5'' on Oceana Apartment Hotel stationery, where he lived in retirement. Folds and toning, overall very good condition. With original mailing envelope, and also news clippings mentioning Laurel and Hardy.
