Stan Laurel typed letter signed, written to his pen-pen friend Bill Brown, with excellent Laurel & Hardy content. Dated 5 January 1962, Laurel writes in part, ''...Pleased to know you enjoyed the L'H book & found it interesting...The films we made at Metro & 20th Century Fox we had no choice of anything or any say whatsoever, we were very unhappy about it all, thats the reason we quit after making five films (FOX) the pictures were very bad. It was as you say 'Take it or leave it' deal. We should have left after the first one, but we were in hopes the situation would improve, instead it grew worse. We were pretty disgusted. / Since Hardy died, there has never been any suggestion to replace him, due to the fact I am not in any condition to work anymore - had I been in good health & able, I doubt if I'd ever find another 'Ollie'. / I understand Bud Abbott teamed up with another partner & is working the Bistro Circuit back East. We appeared in one colored film only for Metro, Goldwyn, Mayer several years ago, titled 'The Rogue Song'...[signed] Stan Laurel.'' Letter on Oceana stationery measures 5.5'' x 8.5''. Folds and light toning, overall very good condition. With original mailing envelope.
