Screen-worn Dancing Bear costume from Captain Kangaroo. Finely handcrafted costume includes the giant plush head and one-piece body suit. The darling character was played by its inventor, Cosmo Allegretti, save for a few years early in the program when Don Watts inhabited the costume. Bear's head is decorated in felt and velour with a black satin bow around the neck. Ears are wired for shape and rim is lined in padded leather. Fuzzy brown body suit is fully lined and features a shaped padded belly, enclosed mitten hands and built-in feet. Zips up the back under a Velcro closure, with a single hook and eye closure at the top. Both head and body feature discreet mesh ventilation sections. Dancing Bear's head measures 18'' across, 22.5'' in height and 15'' deep. Body measures 61'' in height and 25'' across the chest with a 24'' inseam. Some overall wear and dust to hefty costume and separation to sole of left shoe, else near fine. A very special one-of-a-kind piece of Captain Kangaroo.
