Revolutionary War payroll for the 3rd Massachusetts Regiment, Captain Lemuel Clapp's company, which served with distinction during the Boston Siege, particularly the Battle of Bunker Hill, and later the Battles of Saratoga. Dated 19 April 1779, document lists 41 soldiers beginning with Lemuel Clap, with several other Claps listed, including Lemuel Clap, Jr. Other Boston notables are present including members of the Wiswell, Withington, and Bird families, many of whom, such as Joseph Withington, served as minutemen at Lexington & Concord. Document reads at top, ''A Pay Roll of Capt. Lem'l Clap's Company in Maj. N[athaniel] Heath Detachment for Guards in and about Boston in the State of Massachusetts Bay in Service of the United States...'' Document lists soldiers' rank, time of enlistment, length of service and pay owed. Measures approximately 15.5'' x 11.5''. Small hole at intersecting folds, light wear, and trimmed lower edge, overall in very good condition.
