Olympic relay torch used in the 2012 Summer Olympics. The Torch Relay tradition began in 1928, and transports a spark from the parent flame in Olympia, Greece to the host city in time for the opening ceremonies. Designed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, the torch is made of gold-colored aluminum alloy, perforated by 8,000 circles to represent the 8,000 torchbearers who carried the flame. The triangular shape of the torch represents the 3 Olympic values (respect, excellence and friendship), the elements of the Olympic motto (faster, higher and stronger) and the amount of times the U.K. has hosted (1908, 1948 and 2012). Torch measures 31.5'', without fuel canister. Light wear, otherwise near fine condition.
