Pulitzer Prize winning ''Gone With the Wind'' author Margaret Mitchell typed letter signed, dated 24 March 1937, regarding her famous novel. Addressed to friend Henry Nevin on personal stationery, Mitchell thanks him for his role in passing a Georgia state resolution for ''Gone With the Wind'', writing, ''this resolution has meant more to me in pride and happiness than anything that has ever happened to me''. Letter reads in full: ''I know the part you played in the wonderful resolution the Senate passed concerning 'Gone With the Wind'. Thank you so much for what you did and for the kind and friendly thought that went into it. Everything in the resolution was well calculated to make me very proud and very happy. But you knew that! When I read the resolution I could hardly believe it was me and my book I was reading about for, in all sincerity, I could never have higher praise than this resolution, coming as it did from the Georgia Senate and inspired by Georgia friends. There is nothing in the world so heart-warming as the appreciation of the homefolks, and I can never thank you personally enough for what you did in this matter. When I was reading the resolution my mind went back a number of years and I saw the two of us sitting in class at Tenth Street School. What would we have felt if we could have looked ahead then and seen what the future held for us! At this late date I will confess that, after your kindness in the matter of the resolution, I have forgiven you for being so good at mathematics when I could barely make a passing mark. I have harbored this against you for many years because you were so effortless in the matter of mental arithmetic and could always remember instantly what 7 x 6 made, whereas I couldn't add above 10 with my shoes on. Now I forgive you for your proficiency because of your wonderful kindness to me and 'Gone With the Wind.' Seriously, Henry, this resolution has meant more to me in pride and happiness than anything that has ever happened to me. So, thank you again.'' Letter runs 1pp., signed ''Margaret Mitchell Marsh''. Page measures 7'' x 11''. Comes with original envelope complete with stamp postmarked 1 April 1937. Letter is folded and has 2 small pieces of white tape affixed to top of verso, otherwise near fine condition.
