Lot of items related to the World War II career of Alan S. Wood, the 22-year old U.S. Naval Communications Officer who supplied Marines with the American flag hoisted atop Mt. Suribachi at the Battle of Iwo Jima that was captured in the historic photograph, ''Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima''. Lot includes:

1) Two pieces of Wood's military uniform insignia, one with two stars measuring approximately 4.25 long and one measuring 1.375'' long. Very good to near fine.

2) Wood's WWII dog tag measuring 1.5'' x 1.25''. Light tarnishing, overall very good.

3) Wood's sterling silver WWII ID bracelet. Clasp is broken, else very good.

4) Bronze Iwo Jima commemorative medallion from 1945, showing the Flag Raising on front in relief and an unsheathed sword with the words ''For Conquer We Must'' on reverse. Medallic Art Co. N.Y. mark on rim. Measures 2.875'' in diameter, housed in original Society of Medalists box. Near fine.

5) Wood's U.S. Navy ID card, with Wood's signature and thumbprint on verso. Laminated card measures 3.75'' x 2.5''. Some soiling, overall very good.

6) Wood's U.S. Navy separation letter on Secretary of the Navy stationery dated 30 August 1946, with stamped signature of James Forrestal.

7) Six photos, including several from Iwo Jima, and also one with the officers from LST-779, the Iwo Jima landing ship. Photos range in size from 4.125'' x 5'' to 8.5'' x 11''. Very good condition.

8) Collection of approximately 15 buttons, several from Wood's WWII uniform. All housed in original B. Pasquale Co. shoulder marks box.
