Archive of 8 letters signed by Cole Porter, Ira Gershwin and Preston Sturges, dated 1946-1949 regarding various 1940s songs. All but one letter is addressed to Rose Parker, who worked for the music publishing company Chappell & Co. Six of the letters are from Porter, who formed a friendship with Parker, one letter is from Sturges and one is from Gershwin, where he acknowledges receipt of the blueprints for the musical ''Park Avenue''. Collection includes:
1-6) Six letters signed by Cole Porter, ranging from 21 September 1948 to 20 September 1949, with Porter requesting ''So in Love'', ''Wunderbar'', ''We Shall Never Be Younger'' and many more songs. Porter also sends ''Farewell, Amanda'' to Parker for copyright. A few personal letters are also included, such as congratulations to Parker on her nuptials. Most letters measure 8.5'' x 11'', in very good to near fine condition. Three have original envelopes.
7) Ira Gershwin signed pencil receipt for the blueprints of ''Park Avenue''. Dated 19 August 1946. Measures 5.875'' x 4''. Moderate creasing, overall very good.
8) Preston Sturges letter signed, dated 28 May 1949. Sturges thanks Parker for sending him the song ''I'm a Gigolo'' and references Cole Porter. Measures 8.5'' x 11''. Folds, else near fine.
Lot also includes a sheet of musical notes on Chappell & Co. stationery, with a handwritten note underneath in an unknown hand.
