Striking King George III document signed during the latter part of his reign. He signs ''George R'' in large script to the upper left. Dated December 1807 and penned in Latin, the document appoints Joseph Smith as Charge d'Affaire to the Kingdom of Sardinia. Three years later, George succummbed to mental illness and his son George IV ruled as Prince Regent in his stead. 1pp. on vellum with ornate tassles attached. A 5'' segment from the bottom edge is folded and secured by the decoration. Measures 23.25'' x 13.25'', or 23.25'' x 18.25'' if completely unfolded. The tassle cord measures 16'' from the edge of the page to the top of the tassles. Light foxing and fading, with two chips to the top edge. Very good.
