Olympian Spyridon ''Spyros'' Louis signed slip. The water-carrier and marathon runner became the winner of the first event of the first Olympiad of the modern era. The Summer Games were held on 6 April 1896, in Athens, Greece, Spyros' home country and birthplace of the Olympics of antiquity. The marathon was the first event, its finish line located at Panathinaiko Stadium. Spyros became a national hero. In addition to his signature, he also inscribes a greeting in Greek and dates it 1896. Slip measures 3.75'' x 1.5''. Toning and remnants from mounting and pencil notations to verso, else near fine.
