Dwight Eisenhower typed letter signed, dated 1 May 1942, on ''War Department / War Department General Staff / Operations Staff / Washington'' letterhead. Letter was written during Eisenhower's brief stint in Washington before being sent to London as Commanding General of the European Theater of Operations. Addressed to brother Edgar, letter reads in part: ''...I will continue to send my monthly check to Roy in the assurance that it will get to Mother at normal intervals. Mamie is extremely well, for her; and Johnny seems to be pursuing a normal course at West Point. She will probably go up to see him on May 29, which will be the day he goes from the status of lowly 'plebe' to an exalted 'yearling'...'' Signed ''Dwight''. One page letter, measuring 8'' x 10.5'', has folds from mailing. Near fine.
