''The New York Times'' hardcover compilation for the months of April through June 1863. The daily newspapers provide detailed accounts of the ongoing battles of the Civil War. The 5 May issue features headlines reading, ''Terrible Battles Fought on Saturday and Sunday at Chancellorsville'' and ''Unsuccessful Attempts of Stonewall Jackson to Turn General Hooker's Right.'' The events leading up to the Battle of Gettysburg are reflected in June headlines, with the last issue on the day before the battle: ''The New Rebel Movement Northward,'' ''Our Cavalry Operations near Gettysburg'' and ''37,000 Troops with 104 Piece Artillery Passing Through Chambersburg.'' Loss of leather to spine and significant separation of 21.5'' x 16'' boards at binding. Minor chipping and toning of pages. Overall in very good condition.
