Thaddeus S. C. Lowe autograph letter signed. The late 19th century inventor datelines his letter New York, 25 May 1868. It reads ''Dear Sir, The bbls [barrels] of Ice arrived this A.M. all right - I have received reports on the frozen shad from all the parties who rec'd them including the one used yesterday on my own table, and all agree that they were delicious and Mr. Stanton had called for a second edition which he says will help him in his subscriptions - I hope you will stop at the St. Nicholas. Yours in haste / T.S.C. Lowe''. Lowe pioneered the long-distance transport of refrigerated foods. He also contributed his aeronautical prowess to the Union effort in the Civil War through the ''Intrepid'' spy balloon. 1pp. measures 5'' x 8''. Toning, creasing, foxing and notations to verso.
