Cortelyou assists Theodore Roosevelt in his first two weeks as President in the wake of William McKinley's assassination by reaching to Wyndham R. Meredith of Richmond, Virginia to arrange a meeting. Typed on Executive Mansion mourning stationery, it reads: ''...The President requests me to say...he will be glad to see the Committee [of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers]...George B. Cortelyou''. 2pp. on card-style stationery measures 4.75'' x 7.75''. Envelope included. Creasing and very light soiling, else near fine.
