Hunter S. Thompson autograph letter signed, composed in pencil on an aerogram from Woody Creek, Colorado in January 1964. Thompson writes to his childhood friend Paul Semonin, whose house he was helping rent. Letter reads in full, ''I think I have transfered [sic] your castle to two rent-payers - it will be settled this week - Peggy concurs - Olaf paid $70 - I'll put up the other $30 - if the check comes in time - to pay off the ski corp on Jan 10. Right now I'm flat, but I expect $150 this week. I had the Rptr. send you a copy of my Lou[isville] piece - it is heavily edited & cut, with most of the balls cut off - but me & Kazin are in there, hustling for the White Establishment. H''. Thompson's reference to Kazin is Alfred Kazin, whose 1960 article ''In Puerto Rico'' had a strong impact on him. Two page letter (front and verso) measures 7.25'' x 12''. Some chipping to sides from opening and light toning, overall very good condition.
