Morgan Bulkeley letter signed as Mayor of Hartford, Connecticut. Bulkeley was a Civil War veteran, U.S. Senator and Governor of Connecticut, but his most distinctive position was the first President of baseball's National League, serving in that position in 1876. Bulkeley would be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937. Dated 17 May 1884, letter invites a Colonel to an event in Hartford, countersigned by Major General Lucius A. Barbour. Measures 8'' x 10''. Separation starting at fold lines, else near fine.
