Albert Einstein autograph letter signed, dated 18 May 1931. In German, Einstein writes to Sir W.D. Ross, Provost of Oriel College at Oxford, declining Ross' kind invitation due to Einstein's health conditions, unless the event was a scientific talk. Signed ''A. Einstein'' in fine black felt-tip. At this time, Einstein was touring the United States, where he would ultimately emigrate in 1933 after renouncing his German citizenship. Single page measures 7'' x 9''. Two folds, with one through signature. Overall very good plus condition. Accompanied by original envelope.
