A rare complete set in near fine condition of Salvador Dali's ''Divine Comedy'', comprising 100 woodcuts in color on loose sheets of Rives BFK paper. Paris: Editions d'Art Les Heures Claires, 1959-1964, #2351 of the 4765 issued French edition. A visual interpretation of Dante Alighieri's poem ''Divine Comedy'', Dali painted 101 watercolors for this suite, from which 3500 woodblocks were carved to create these 100 engravings. Dante considered this suite to be the most important of his career. Each woodcut measures approximately 10.25'' x 13'' with deckled bottom edge. Housed in original six slipcases, which have some shelf wear. Woodcuts, however, are mint as published with our highest condition rating of near fine. Unusual in such pristine condition.
Additional woodcuts can be seen here.
