Rare program to the nationally televised ''Gone With the Wind'' world premiere Atlanta ball, held the evening of 14 December 1939, one night before the film's premiere. President Jimmy Carter, a teenager at the time, remarked that the Atlanta premiere of ''Gone With the Wind' was ''the biggest event to happen in the South in my lifetime.'' To celebrate the event, the Mayor of Atlanta declared a citywide holiday with three days of festivities, including this exclusive gala ball. Program has red covers lettered in gilt highlighting photos from the film. Interior includes description of the night's events, including attendance by the film executives and celebrities, history of Atlanta and costume reenactments from the Civil War era. Photos of Margaret Mitchell and the film's stars throughout, as well as local ads and information about the Atlanta Junior League. Measures 7.25'' x 10.5''. Unpaginated, but approximately 96pp. Light creasing and wear, overall in very good plus condition.
