Elsa Einstein typed letter signed, composed to her cousin Erich, with whom she commiserates with over the death of his father. Dated only 14 July, letter was written sometime after 1934 as Elsa writes at length about losing her daughter Isle, who passed away in June 1934. She also comments on the luxurious treatment she receives when traveling with her husband Albert Einstein, contrasting it to the lack of either a bereavement or emigration discount for those traveling to the United States. Lengthy letter reads in part, ''I just received your letter with the devastating news of your dear father's passing. I am certain that he had a good death; he died from a stroke. Blessed is he who does not need to suffer much and who does not have to die while fully aware. I experienced this in such a horrible way with my child; she was dying for weeks and suffered greatly...It is very hard for your mother to bear, of course. / I used to be very good friends with your father a long time ago...The atmosphere there was so sunny and joyful...You were asking me about a shipping line and about whether we were able to receive any discounts. I did not receive a reduction of even one cent for my Margot...The only benefit we have is for ourselves, for Albert and for me. This means that we get luxurious cabins with bathrooms on elegant ships everywhere, a complete suite, and they always put flowers and all sorts of things into the cabin...[signed] Elsa''.
