''The Wonderful Wizard of Oz'' by L. Frank Baum, illustrated by W.W. Denslow. Chicago: George M. Hill Co.: 1900. First edition, second state, in binding variant C. Second state printing points include: p. 14, line 1 reads ''low wail of''; p. 81 fourth line from bottom reads ''pieces''; p. 227 reads ''While the Woodman''; advertisement on verso of front free endpaper lacks border; the colophon on rear endpaper is 13 lines without border; plate opposite p. 34 doesn't have the two blots on the moon; plate opposite p. 92 isn't shaded red on the horizon. Original pictorial cloth stamped in red and green, with 23 of the 24 color plates throughout, missing the plate facing page 80, and also missing page 259 (last page of book) along with rear free endpapers. Volume has been recased with original spine laid down, and with some pages slightly mis-aligned. Previous owner's inscription to front free endpaper, which has been trimmed. Top and bottom edge's of spine cut off, overall soiling to boards, some chipping to pages, and separation starting to joints. A few plates detached from binding. Overall in fair to good condition with interior pages generally bright.
