36-star flag after Nevada joined the United States on 31 October 1864, in the midst of the Civil War. Flag was made shortly thereafter, intended for waving during a parade. It's the rarer version of the 36-star flag, with the central star pointing downward, and the ''Great Luminary'' (stars configured in such a way that they resemble an even larger star) that surround the central star also pointing downward. Starched cotton flag is attached to a wooden staff measuring 7.5''. Flag itself measures 4'' x 2.5''. Some age discoloration, bottom of staff is splintered, and cloth at top of staff is starting to unfurl. Overall in very good condition.
