'Gone With the Wind'' memo from producer David O. Selznick to Charles Richards, who helped cast the epic film. Dated 26 November 1937, this interesting memo mentions several actors Selznick was considering, including Judy Garland for the role of Carreen O'Hara, ultimately played by Ann Rutherford. Memo reads in part, ''When you next see Bennie Thau will you please try to set the following casting in connection with 'GONE WITH THE WIND'. / Definitely set Lionel Barrymore as Dr. Meade...tell Bennie he should not get him involved in more than one other picture at a time while he is doing 'GONE WITH THE WIND'...I want to test Billie Burke for Aunt Pitty Pat. Ditto Gladys George as Belle Wattling. Ditto Janet Beecher for Mrs. Merriweather or Mrs. Meade. Ditto Judy Garland for Careen. Ditto Shepherd Strudwick for Ashley. / All of these people should report to George Cukor and/or Fred Spencer. / DOS''. Selznick then adds in all caps, ''PLEASE KEEP THIS AND SIMILAR MEMOS STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL AND DO NOT LEAVE THEM AROUND WHERE THEY CAN BE READ BY OTHER PEOPLE. / DOS.'' Memo measures 8.5'' x 11''. Near fine condition.
