Charles Darwin autograph letter signed, dated 22 June 1860, less than seven months after the publication of ''On the Origin of Species'', and one week before the famous Oxford debate on Darwin's theory of evolution, where it was asked if man had descended from apes. Darwin here writes from Down, Kent to his land agent John Higgins, regarding rent collected from Darwin's farm at Beesby. Darwin signs at the conclusion, ''Charles Darwin'', unique with his full signature. Single page letter measures 5'' x 7.75''. Folds and light wear. Darwin purposely signs over a duty stamp at conclusion of letter. Very good plus condition.
