Original news wire teletype from 22 November 1963, first announcing the sniper attack against President John F. Kennedy. From Dallas, teletype begins dramatically, ''AN UNKNOWN SNIPER FIRED THREE SHOTS AT...'' The sentence then ends with a misspelling, and the bulletin continues with other misspellings, in a frantic effort to communicate the news. It continues, ''FLASH / KENNEEY / FLASH / KENNEDY SERIOUSLY WOUNDED----''. The person relying the information then instructs other reporters to not use the wire, in order to keep it open for updates on President Kennedy. It continues, ''STAY OFF ALL OF YOU STAY OFF AND KEEP OFF GET OFF...WILL U U PLEASE STAY OFF THIS WIRE...STAY OFF STAY OFF''. The next report follows on the same sheet, ''BULLETIN / (DALLAS)---A SNIPER SERIOUSLY WOUNDED LDJNBUXENT KENNEDY IN DOWNTOWN DALLAS TODAY...PERHAPS FATALLY.'' Teletype measures 8.25'' x 19.5''. Folds, some toning and foxing, overall very good condition. A dramatic piece from that day, viscerally communicating the confusion and chaos of the assassination as it was happening.
