First edition, first printing of ''Alcoholics Anonymous: The Story of How More Than One Hundred Men Have Recovered From Alcoholism'', especially rare in its original first printing dust jacket. New York: Works Publishing Company, 1939. One of just approximately 1,900 surviving copies from the 4,860 first printed in April of 1939, before becoming one of the most influential books of the 20th century. All first printing points are present: Half-title page is followed by the title page and pages v-viii, with another half-title page before the text begins; complete text is followed by three blank leaves. Runs 400pp. and measures 6.25'' x 9.25'' x 2'' thick, bound in original bright red cloth boards with still bright gilt lettering. Very light shelf wear and previous owner's inscription to front free endpaper dated 1939. Overall in very good plus condition. Dust jacket has some chipping to spine edges, and some sunning to spine, but unusually well-preserved, overall in very good plus condition. One of the more attractive copies we've seen, complete with the scarce dust jacket.
