Fantastic, early concept artwork for Ridley Scott's ''Alien'', the 1979 sci-fi horror film that became an instant legend, unique in its genre for winning an Academy Award for Visual Effects. Artwork measuring 17'' x 9.5'' on illustration paper shows the character Ripley climbing up a rope in zero gravity, with the cavernous Nostromo spaceship in the background. Sketch is entitled ''Companionways. No Gravity'' with the notes added, ''Ripley shot against blue backing. For T. Matte / All set - Miniature with vertical bridge added''. Artwork is dated 13 March [1977] and signed ''Scotty'', likely by Elliot Scott, uncredited on ''Alien'', but who served as Production Designer for two of the Indiana Jones films. Rendered in pen and marker, artwork is near fine. From the collection of former 20th Century Fox executive Peter Beale, whose COA accompanies the lot.
