Mary Astor autograph letter signed. The Oscar-winning actress and recovering alcoholic writes to her literary agent Gloria Safier on 4 March 1964, in part, ''...I thought the show was just great - and tell Pucky I congratulate her - not many people in A.A. can make a Twelfth Step call on a few million people at one time!...I got my galleys - as always it's exciting to see the stuff in print...Please -send a 'set'...to a very nice gal who was about the only person I met on the cruise I liked. She's General Bill Daugherty's widow, very rich, very Nob Hill. We had one thing in common - we hated 'tourists' and we would avoid the bus tours at various posts - get a car and snoop around on our own. She'd read 'My Story' [Astor's autobiography] only in the newspapers - didn't like it much - 'there's more to you than an affair with George Kaufman'!...Back to Pucky - I thought Janice was perfect - ditto Murray Hamilton who was a great device to get all the nonsense said that keeps alcoholics sick...Love Mary''. Letter runs 2pp. on two sheets, stapled together at upper left with a copy of Safier's response. Measures 8.5'' x 11''. Near fine.
