Early ''Star Wars'' production budget from April 1975, a year before filming started for the iconic film. The budget is likely preliminary, as it's mostly filled in by hand and totals almost $5 million, well-short of the $8 million that was initially budgeted by 20th Century Fox. In addition to the approximately 40pp. budget entitled ''Production Budget / The Star Wars'', thirteen loose pages of mostly special effects costs are estimated: (1) Dated 30 April 1975, document entitled ''Starkiller'' breaks down the wardrobe costs for the main cast, including Luke ''Starkiller's'' brothers (named ''Wink'' and ''Biggs''), who were part of the original script; (2) Dated 24 April 1975, ''Estimate of Special Effects Cost as per Second Draft / ADVENTURES OF THE STAR KILLER / (episode one) / 'THE STAR WARS''' from the company Special Effects (World Wide) Ltd., which provides very detailed estimates for all special effects with lots of line items for ''laser fires'', explosions and ''animated creatures''; (3) Handwritten document dated 25 April 1975 by Elliot Scott, the well-known conceptual artist who here provides ''preliminary set estimates'', not including ''Robots, Monsters, etc.'' All documents measure 8.5'' x 13'', in very good condition. A fascinating and detailed set of documents illuminating the origins of the space odyssey. From the collection of former 20th Century Fox executive Peter Beale, in charge of production for ''Star Wars''.
