Benito Mussolini autograph letter signed, dated 25 January 1928 when Mussolini served as Italian Prime Minister and also Duce of Fascism. In this letter to Finance Minister Giuseppe Volpi, Mussolini writes about the 1st Conference on the History of Science and an international book festival. Upon ''Il Capo del Governo'' stationery, he writes, ''Dear Volpi, Two rapier thrusts, and it breaks my heart - in all seriousness - to do it. This morning the Florentine Commission came to see me, Garbasso, Ginori-Conti, etc. a) They are asking that the State's contribution to the 1st Conference on the History of Science (which will be held in late fall 1928 or more likely spring 1929) be set at 300 thousand. It seems to me that Your Excellency had already settled on 200,000 lire. b) They are asking - with Bemporad present - for the contribution made in other years for the international book festival, which already has commitments from 22 states. That's another 300 thousand lire. Present all this at the next Council of Ministers. / Mussolini / 25 January 1928 - Year VI''. Letter on two sheets of card-style stationery measures 8.25'' x 10.75''. Toning, small punch hole and horizontal fold; overall very good plus condition.
