President Nixon typed letter signed during the throes of the Watergate investigation, stating his determination to stay in office. By the time of this letter, a politically weakened Nixon, under immense scrutiny by the media, had already lost Vice President Agnew to corruption charges and famously told reporters, ''People have got to know whether or not their President is a crook. Well, I'm not a crook.'' Writing here to Congressman and supporter Bill Young, letter reads in full: ''The joint letter you signed recently urging me not to resign the Presidency has been received and I am grateful for this expression of sentiments by you and your colleagues in the House. It is my intention to remain on the job and perform my duties in the best fashion possible. As I endeavor to fulfill my responsibilities, it is reassuring to know that I have your support...'' Signed with initials ''RN'' on White House letterhead dated 20 February 1974. 1pp. measures 6.75'' x 8.75''. Near fine.
