Directors Guild of America medal awarded to Richard Brooks for Outstanding Directorial Achievement for the 1958 classic film, ''Cat on a Hot Tin Roof'' starring Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman. Brooks both directed and co-wrote ''Cat on a Hot Tin Roof'', based on the play by Tennessee Williams. The film was a resounding success both critically and at the box office, and was nominated for 6 Academy Awards including Brooks as Best Director. Large silver-tone medal features a relief portrait of an eagle clutching a strip of celluloid, upon which is engraved ''19 DIRECTOR 58''. Gusts of wind are depicted in the background and ''DIRECTORS GUILD AWARD'' appears beneath the eagle's beak. Written on the border are the words, ''FOR OUTSTANDING DIRECTORIAL ACHIEVEMENT / RICHARD BROOKS / CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF''. Measures 4.5'' in diameter. Comes housed in a black 5.75'' square case embossed ''D.G.A.'' in gold. Medal and case weigh 1 lbs. 3 oz. Light tarnishing, overall in very good condition.
