Dwight Eisenhower autograph letter signed to his wife, Mamie, dated only 27 December. The letter, beginning with ''Darling'', reads in part, ''An officer starts back to the U.S. in a few minutes. I had thought I'd have time for a long letter -- but no -- everything is normal; no time for anything. However, even with this poor excuse, you'll know that I'm still struggling -- and always think of you. Last night I received a lovely robe from London, which it seems, you had Bob Littlejohn send to me. It's [the] nicest thing you ever saw...a bit grand for a theater of operations, but I'll use it all the time, just the same. I had a long letter from 'Min' in the past week; also one from you. Another from [son] John (written at W.P. on the day of the Navy Game) so it was a good week in that respect...'' Eisenhower signs, ''Much love / Ike''. Accompanying Allied Force Headquarters, Office of the Commander-in-Chief envelope bears a ''Lt. General D.D. Eisenhower'' return address. It is addressed to ''Mrs. Dwight D. Eisenhower / Wardman Park Addition'' in Washington, DC, where Mamie lived during the war. 8'' x 10.5'' single page letter is in fine condition. Staining to verso of 8'' x 3.75'' envelope, else very good.
