Very collectible set of the four first editions of the Winnie-the-Pooh series by creator A.A. Milne and illustrator E.H. Shepard. Titles include (in order of year published 1924, 1926, 1927 and 1928): "When We Were Very Young", "Winnie-the-Pooh", "Now We Are Six" and "The House at Pooh Corner". All published by Methuen & Co.: London, with all but "When We Were Very Young" being the 1st states of the 1st editions, and "When We Were Very Young" being the 2nd state. All four books measure 5.25" x 7.75" and come in original dustjackets. All four are in very good condition with exceptional dustjackets in mylar protection. "When We Were Very Young" has a stain to dustjacket cover, pencil writing to the front free endpaper and some toning. "Winnie-the-Pooh" has the previous owner's name in ink on the title page and pencil writing on front free endpaper. "Now We Are Six" is cracking along the hinges, pencil writing on front free endpaper and previous owner's name in pen on the half-title page. "The House at Pooh Corner" has pencil writing in a few places including the front free endpaper, and toning on pastedowns. Dustjackets are all lightly worn and toned, but much better than usually encountered. Overall, a very attractive set, with the charming illustrations by E.H. Shepard that we know so well.
